Comments May 24 - Lotus gave birth to a litter of four last night. We were not present for the birth but it seems to have gone very quickly and very smoothly. She has taken to her new role quite well. Much to our surprise there are only four bubs, and once again all of them are female. Due to the low number of babies and our need for females, there may not be any available for placement. May 27 - Three of the pups have been rejected and are no longer with us. The remaining pup is the largest of the four, and vocal and active. The other pups never made any noise and did not make an effort to nurse past the first day. An attempt was made to transfer them to Wonderful who has 5wk old pups but she also rejected them. *We will be running a serology panel next week to ensure that the low birth numbers as well as the failure to thrive is not related to something subclinical in the rattery. Results will be posted as soon as they become available. June 2 - Aurora is chugging along although she is considerably developmentally delayed. She is 10 days old but just growing in her fur. She's receiving a lot of attention from Lotus and eats very well. We're rooting for her every day! June 16 - Aurora is now 3 weeks old. Developmentally she is about a week behind. We'll see if this continues as she comes up to weaning and eating on her own. |
