Dazzle Me Rattery is a small hobby breeder of domestic pet rats located in Indiana and serving the Chicagoland area. We are dedicated first and foremost to the wellbeing of our animals and lines, and to improving the pet rats as a whole for current and future generations to love and enjoy. Pet rats are charming, creative, curious, playful, clean, adorable little creatures that have stolen the hearts of many. Once thought of as only pesky rodents, the domesticated pet rats can be and often are one of man's best friends. Please take some time to learn more about these wonderful animals.
We are combining our scientific knowledge and first-hand experience of genetic inheritance, our passion for these highly interactive and often misunderstood creatures and a desire to breed a consistently sound animal to bring you happy, healthy, well-adjusted individuals to be the best companions. We are breeding for the whole rat from a few select lines. Occasionally rats are adopted out on strict breeding contracts to select individuals who share the same ideals and goals as we do. We offer all other rats on pet contracts to be cherished members of your family.
With diligent, consistent hard work we know we can reach, even surpass, our own personal goals. We're in this for the long haul and hope you will enjoy the journey through photos, updates and your very own Dazzle Me Rats along the way...
Dazzle Me Rattery is striving for excellence in all areas of temperament, health and conformation.
| Temperament: We breed the best temperaments that we have in our program. With
each passing generation this produces rats with better temperaments
than the parents, which is exactly how it should be. We
do not breed rats that are skittish or aggressive with humans or other
rats. We are very strict in regards to assertive dominance and true
aggression. Only passive, friendly rats are bred here in our program.
We often have rats popcorning into their second year. | ![]() |
| Health: Improving health is a constant work in progress. We strive to carefully track the litters we produce, and the outcrosses that we bring into our rattery in an effort to ensure that our program is moving forward through the years. Any and all health issues that present themselves are researched, discussed, and options weighed before continuing with further breedings. We're breeding for improved health and increased longevity through careful monitoring and linebreeding. |
| Conformation:
We're always working toward better overall conformation in our rats
including better size for both males and females; head length, shape
and width; ear shape and placement; eye size and placement; length,
substance and body structure; proper coloration, marking, coat
quality and condition for an overall quality rat that
compliments the health and temperament noted above. | ![]() |
These are the varieties we have chosen to focus on:
![]() | Russian Cinnamon This color is a lovely combination of Russian Blue, Mink and Agouti that gives the rat an overall dusky cinnamon appearance. We are working on keeping this line in Standard and Satin coats, and predominantly Dumbo, although we will have Standard ears occasionally. We have rats in Self, Berkshire, and Variegated markings in this line. We are also working to create a nice Hooded line from these rats as well. |
| Fawn & Russian Fawn Bright, fire-orange teddy bears - we like our Fawns to stand out in a crowd. The Russian Fawns have a blue undercoat as well as blue ticking throughout. Russian Fawns are basically Russian Blue Agouti with RED. This line is being kept in Standard and Rex coats and all Dumbo ears with predominantly Self and Berkshire markings. This line has the potential to throw Russian Beige from time to time as well. |
| Black & Siamese Dark solid Black rats and stunning colorpoint varieties. We especially want to focus on Russian Blue Siamese with dark smokey points. This line will be bred solid x colorpoint to maintain good quality feet points, and will be kept primarily in Standard ears, Standard and Satin coats. We do have plans of bringing in Black-eyed Siamese and Russian Blue Burmese in the future. |
