Policies

These are just some of our policies and procedures. More will be added as time permits.

Waiting List & Reservations

If you are interested in any of the rat(s) or litter(s) we have posted and would like to be put on the waiting list you need to send us an email requesting an adoption application. Once we receive your email we will send you the application that you must fill out completely and email it back to us. If you are approved you will be put on the waiting list and we will notify you. If we find problems in the application and/or you are denied we will notify you.  We reserve the right to accept or deny any applicant for any reason.

The waiting list is on a first-come, first-served basis. Many times we start our waiting list for a specific litter months in advance so the sooner you get your application in, the better your chances are of getting the rat(s) you want.

We cannot guarantee the size of any of our litters. For instance, sometimes a doe will only produce four babies while we might have eight people on our waiting list for that litter. If this happens, those left without babies will be put first on the waiting list for the next litter. We appologize if this happens, but we cannot control mother nature.

Once the babies are twenty-one (21) days* of age we will contact everyone on the waiting list and ask you to send us your top three (3) choices and state whether you want one or more babies. At this time you have three (3) days to send us your choices. If we do not hear from you within three (3) days we will move on down the list to the next person. So keep an eye on dates and emails!

Starting from first to last on the list, people will be able to pick from the babies that are available. At this time you are required to send in a non-refundable deposit for each of the babies you are reserving. The deposit for each baby is $7 and is put towards the remaining adoption fee. You will have five (5) business days in which to send your deposit(s). We accept money orders and Paypal.

*In some cases, such as with litters containing Siamese or Double Rex rats, the reservation date will be pushed back so that we can let them further develop before making any final decisions about color and markings.

Adoption Fees

All of our pet rats are priced at $20 for one pup and $15 for each additional pup.
Adoptions of more than three pups are taken into consideration on a case-by-case basis, and priced accordingly. At time of reservation you are required to send in a non-refundable deposit of $7 per rat, which will be rolled into the final adoption fee. The remaining adoption fee is due at pickup if you have not sent it in beforehand.

Breeding quality rats are available only to breeders we know and trust, those we have already done business with.  We have gone to great lengths to obtain quality rats from quality breeders and do not want these lines to fall into the wrong hands.

Going Home

Pups will not be ready for placement until at least 6wks of age. This is to ensure each pup is doing well and they get the extra socialization and lessons from staying with their siblings. While other breeders release their babies at 4 weeks, we feel that it is essential for our pups to stick around a little longer. We feel it is stressful to not only be weaned from your mom at 4wks old, but to be separated from siblings and sent off to a new home all in one week!

Once the babies are ready to go to their new homes we will set up a time and place to meet up. At this time we are able to transport rats to the Chicago area as well as northwest Indiana.

Please be sure to bring carriers for your rats! It is not acceptable or safe to allow the rat(s) to free-range in the car or on someone's lap while being driven home.

Contracts

All rats are placed on strict pet-only contracts. Our contracts explain all of our rules and policies and must be agreed to before you can take your rats home. Contracts are put in place for informational purposes as well as to ensure good pet-only placements, and to make sure each party knows what is required when adopting an animal from our rattery.
