Waiting
List & Reservations
To ensure that we have enough homes
lined up for an upcoming litter we will usually open up the waiting
lists weeks before a pairing actually takes place. It is wise to join
the waiting list early on to help ensure that you are able to reserve a
pup(s), as they are generally organized on a first-come, first-served
basis. In order to be considered for the waiting list, you must first
fill out an Adoption
Application and answer all the questions truthfully and completely.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them! We will get back to
you as soon as possible to let you know you've been placed on the
waiting list, or if we have any further questions.
Please note that
while we try to schedule breedings "to a T", mother nature has the
final say in when a litter will be conceived and birthed, the number of
pups born and the gender ratio of that litter. Therefore we cannot
guarantee you will get exactly what you want, when you want them.
Please understand this when applying to be placed on the waiting list.
Please also understand that once a pairing has taken place it
will be about 9 weeks from then until the pups are ready to go home. We
are not a pet store or business that you can "order now" and pick up
within the week. This process is time consuming and patience is key.
You will find that the wait will be well worth it in the end when you
get to bring home your playful new companion(s).
Once the pups are born we will regularly update the website with
information and photos of the litter as they grow and develop. No
reservations can be made until the pups are at least 3 weeks of age. We
must first decide who our official keepers will be before allowing the
waiting list to begin reserving their choices.
We are first
and foremost in this journey to provide normal,
everyday pet owners with the opportunity to bring a wonderful new
companion into their home. We believe everyone should have the ability
to adopt quality rats, not just other breeders. There are few cases in
which we must allow another breeder to choose their pick of the litter
before our pet adopters are able (for instance, when they are the
breeder of the sire or dam). Otherwise, everyone is treated equally and
on a first come, first served basis.
** Please be
aware that in general we only adopt to persons 18 years of
age and older. We have adopted to those under 18 in special
circumstances in which the parent(s) must sign the adoption contract
and abide by all requirements described in the Pet Only Contract.
** We reserve the right to deny any person for any reason, even at time
of pick-up, should we believe the placement isn't appropriate.
** We will only consider placement of rats on breeding contracts to
those individuals we have actively
known and conversed with for a minimum of one year.
Adoption Fees
- Pet Only: $20 each. Requires a signed Pet Only
Adoption
Contract and following all requirements described therein.
- Breeders: $30
each only to serious, dedicated
breeders that share the same ideals and ethics. Requires knowledge of
genetics and many *long* conversations before considering placement of
any rats on a breeding contract.
Going Home
Provided
that
everything is running smoothly, pups have weaned properly and are
adjusting well to being without Mom, you will be able to take your new
companion home at 6 weeks of age. Pups are weaned from 4.5-5 weeks and
will require a week or more to adjust to eating on their own and
acclimating to only living with their siblings. *We very much prefer
siblings are adopted together to make the transition to their new home
as smooth as possible!*
Please be aware that we will make an appointment to meet with you
in a public place to keep the transaction as safe as possible for
people and animals alike. Due to the increased health risks to our rats
and pups (and thus others who adopt from us) we do not allow pick up at
the rattery. Please bring a rat appropriate carrier to pick up your
pup(s)!
Special Notice on Breeding
Rights
Dazzle
Me now
retains breeding rights to any and all rats placed in breeder or
pet-only homes. This is to ensure that if something were to happen to
any of our keepers we will still be able to further improve the line
through rats we have placed. We prefer to keep 2 pups from each
litter to reduce the likelihood of ever needing to borrow back any rat
we place.
We reserve the
right to change any/all of the policies
at any time
without notice.
